Lessons from Rachel Zoe

When I woke up this morning, I was bombarded with images of baby Skyler’s closet.  If you haven’t seen them yet– let’s just say that kid has an incredible wardrobe! I didn’t know a baby could own such things. As Rachel gave ABCNews a tour, I looked around for both style and storage ideas. I noticed that Skyler’s closet has room for hanging, shelving and also contains drawers. For those of you who read my last post—hello efficiency tip #5! At least I know my wardrobe closet (far from being a walk-in) is totally on its way to being awesome!

Using an accessory as an eye-catcher

Most people do not have the budget to operate on Rachel Zoe’s budget but there are still some fashion ideas/ tips that people on any budget can apply.

  1. Don’t be afraid of color. Have statement pieces—like a red shoe or a shirt with a fun print– in your wardrobe that can be paired with muted or subtle pieces to keep it all in check.
  2. Use accessories where they will be noticed. Rachel was displaying Sklyer’s clothing and her hands are what guides the experience. Did you notice the huge black stone ring she was wearing? It kept the viewer focused on her hands and thus what she was showing.
  3. Have a variety of fabrics and textures. Mix it up, keep things interesting. Also, this helps keep pieces organized by season—fabrics like wool and velvet are best suited for winter, and leather is great for fall and spring.
  4. If you are looking for something specific—ask for it. In most department stores, associates know what clothes are available and which section to find them in. Sometimes we might just be looking in the wrong place for a blouse the store has.
I’m always open to hearing what other wardrobe tips people have…
